Scratching the Surface of Peter Hogan's Black Forests

Peter Hogan, the writer and co-creator of the Resident Alien comic book series, which has been adapted into the smash hit TV show of the same name, is taking a turn in a whole other direction with his new horror anthology “Black Forests” from Scratch Comics.

Fans of Resident Alien will be delighted to learn, however, that Peter has left them some creative bread crumbs to follow as he will be joined by Resident Alien co-creator Steve Parkhouse on the new book providing his visual storytelling on the lead strip.  That’s not all though: readers will be delighted to hear that a host of world renowned fan favourite comic creators are adding their considerable talents to the mix, bringing a total of six tales of suspense and the supernatural to life in this new collection of stories, all penned by Hogan.

Included among this top tier team of artists involved are 2000ad and Preacher cover art legend Glenn Fabry and James Bond artist Rapha Lobosco. They are joined by logo and cover designer Rian Hughes, 2000ad and DC Comics artist Jimmy Broxton and Eagle Award winner David Hitchcock, best known for his acclaimed Spring Heeled Jack book.

“This whole thing started when Shane (Chebsey) asked me to write a short horror story,” said Peter about the development of the idea for the book. “After I’d done that I just kept having more horror ideas, so we decided to make a book of them.”

The stories within this 48 page deluxe softcover edition include a macabre tale of misadventure, a folk horror fable with a twist, a glimpse into a terrifying future and all out horror shockers the likes of which you would expect from a master storyteller who has worked on titles like Tom Strong and Sandman: The Dreaming

Peter Hogan’s Black Forests launches via Kickstarter on 23rd June and the campaign runs until 23rd July, with all the usual opportunities to get special variant editions with alternative covers from Aly Fell and David Hitchcock , signed book plate editions, one off pieces of art and, for those who are short of space, digital editions of the book.
